Possible Emergency Water Shutdowns

At Nuevo Water Company (NWC), we work hard to provide advance notice whenever water service must be interrupted. However, in some emergency situations—such as unexpected main breaks or urgent repairs—there may be little or no advance notification to customers.

In these cases, the only signs of a shutdown may include:

  • A repair crew working in your area
  • Low water pressure or temporary loss of service

Please know that NWC always makes every effort to notify customers ahead of planned shutdowns whenever time allows.

What You May Notice During or After Service Is Restored

After a waterline shutdown and restart, normal system pressure can stir up harmless mineral sediment and introduce air into the lines. You may temporarily experience:

  • Brown or discolored water
  • Cloudy or milky-looking water
  • Loud noises or sputtering from plumbing fixtures (caused by air in the lines)

These conditions are temporary and expected after repairs.

What You Should Do

To clear your household plumbing:

  1. Turn on one or more cold-water faucets (such as a bathtub or outdoor spigot).
  2. Let the water run for 5–10 minutes to flush your lines.
  3. Once the water runs clear and steady, normal use can resume.
